Default I hate winter

Yippee!!! The roads are sorta clear at present, but now I've got a totalled 1997 Sable to deal with. I guess on the plus side, that's one fewer car in the driveway.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for your concern. It was your typical icy roads speed too fast for conditions type accident. I was northbound and a southbound vehicle slid over the centerline trying to avoid rearending a stopped vehicle waiting to turn left.

They impacted my car just about dead on the left front tire, caving the fender into the front door and the front door into the rear door. Since there was a decelleration similar to a frontal crash both airbags fired, shattering the windshield. Beyond that I'm not sure just yet the dollar value of the damages, but it will likely exceed the value of the car. A 97 Sable with 150K on the clock is worth about $600 trade in or about 2 grand retail. Either way, the repairs will be more than it's worth.

Fortunately, there were no injuries of any consequence. Just some sore muscles and a bump on the side of my head from hitting the window on the door. The couple in the other car appeared to be totally uninjured; although I'd bet they were sore in the morning. I'm just glad I was alone. If I'd had my wife and kids in the car there'd have likely been some injuries to the kids. The pass airbag blew the sun visor into the back seat in what looks like about 50 small pieces. At the very least the flying glass from the vanity mirror would have nailed one of the kids.

It's early in the snow season. I figure by mid-January folks around here will remember that ice is slippery; but these early squalls send them crashing into things. On the plus side, they do eventually get the hang of it.

As always, we are glad to hear that you have only minor injuries.

Be sure you still get yourself checked out incase you could later have ailments appearing.

This crap can sneak up on you later in life.

Out where Jerry and myself live, it's not any different. The first one or two storms make driving a bigger risk than usual. Jerry could likely tell you all kinds of stories about automotive mahem!

Folks sometimes don't realize that speeds have to lowered and maneuvers can't be made as quickly with poor road conditions.

Don't get me started about the SUV drivers. Not all are bad drivers, but I have little sympathy when I see one in a single vehicle accident. They are often found off the edge of the road or facing the wrong direction in the median strip.
