![]() Hi folks,
Several days ago, the people of New York City were told that we were going to be hit a blizzard of "historical proportions" or "biblical proportions". Some people, including Mayor Bill de Blasio, stated that it was likely to be the worst blizzard that NY City has ever experienced. He even recited past snowfall amounts, and he outright stated that this blizzard was likely to surpass those record amounts. We were told to expect 2-3 feet of snow. The entire city was shut down, at a cost of hundreds of millions of dollars. All forms of public transportation (buses, subways, commuter trains, etc.) stopped running. This was the first time in the history of NY City that the entire subway system was shut down in anticipation of a storm. Curfews were enacted. People were told to be off the roads, or risk a $300 fine and/or being arrested. Well, the storm came and went. And it "fizzled out". We wound up getting only 7 inches of snow. It turns out that the storm actually "spun up" about 50-100 miles further east (in the Atlantic Ocean) than was expected. Eastern Long Island, CT, and MA actually got the expected 2-3 feet of snow. But we didn't. Of course, this all led to second-guessing and finger-pointing. It also caused some bickering and political posturing between Mayor de Blasio and Governor Andrew Cuomo. The fallout may still not be over. At least the NY City Sanitation Dept. did an excellent job of clearing the streets, probably because no one was on the roads out of fear of being arrested. I actually have a different theory to explain what happened and why the storm tracked 50-100 miles further east. I think Howard Stern farted and blew the storm out to sea. His "blast of wind" spared the city massive snowfall amounts. Everyone in NY City should thank him. ![]()

![]() Augie, we ended up with over 30 inches of snow. The storm started at 5pm Monday and didn't let up for 24 hours. The neighboring town held the county record of 36.
Oh, we are expecting 8 to 14 inches more starting Monday morning.

![]() Hi Chris,
I know. MA really got pounded. I have an internet friend who lives in MA, about a 1-2 hour drive west of Boston. He also got about 30 inches of snow. He even posted a photo of himself using his snow blower. Monday's storm gave us much worse than snow. It started as snow. We had a few inches on the ground. Then, it changed to sleet. Then, it changed to rain for a few hours. Then, it changed back to snow again. Then, we got hit with a deep freeze. The result of all of this is that everything in the metro New York City area (roads, sidewalks, steps, cars, etc.) is now covered with a half inch thick layer of ice. You could literally go ice skating on my sidewalk right now. That's how bad it is. Yesterday, some of my neighbors were outside chopping the ice with all sorts of different tools. One of my cousins can't get her car door open. It is frozen shut. Her entire car is covered in ice. You guys in MA got lucky. It was all snow there.

![]() That last storm dropped 20 inches on us.
We have managed over 4 feet of snow in like 10 days. We are looking at 2 to 4 inches tonight!

![]() From a friend:
They suggest that anyone traveling in the current winter conditions should ensure that they have the following: Shovel. Blankets or sleeping bag. Extra winter clothing including coats, hat and gloves. Water. 24 hours worth of food. De-icer fluid. Rock salt. Flashlight with spare batteries. Road flares or reflective triangles. 5-gallon gas can. First aid kit. Booster cables. I looked like an idiot when I got on the bus this morning.
