Default Hear the thunder???

Those of you who have been around for some time- like when I was a daily poster- will know I'm referring to my series of bad luck hits. Many posted that if they heard thunder, they'd take steps away from me to avoid the lightning.

Well, it's happening again. I may even be forced to finally let go of my beloved LNor.

Short story: I've been diagnosed with carcinoid cancer in my GI tract. It has metastasized to the lymph nodes. I had surgery on Dec. 10 to remove 18" of my small intestine and several tumors. I'm now off work at least until the end of January. I have more tests to go. Fortunately, I have fairly decent insurance and disability coverage, but...

So for now, my shopping for a Fiesta- and LNor's new engine- are on the way-back burner and possibly off the stove altogether.

Not to get 'preachy', but this has brought me closer to God and I am trusting Him with whatever them future holds.

Hi Jerry,

When I first read the title of this thread, I thought that you had put a new engine in your Mustang GT, and you were jokingly asking if forum members from all over the world heard the "thunder" of the engine firing up. I was ready to reply, "Yeah, I heard it in New York."

Anyway, I'm sorry to hear about the bad news. Obviously, the cancer is no longer localized since it has spread. But don't give up hope. With modern medicine, almost anything is possible. I should know because I went down a similar road. But I was much younger (22 years old) than most people when I had to deal with my chronic illness. I used to go to sleep every night when I was in my 20s thinking to myself, "This is it. I'm not going to see tomorrow." I was deathly sick, with systemic inflammation and IV lines in my arms. But I'm still here. In a way, I can't believe it myself.

I've had relatives with advanced stage cancer, and their own doctors wrote them off and gave up on them. But they are still here.

The important thing is that you don't give up hope. And keep fighting.

By the way, when it seems like all hope is lost, just think about happy thoughts, like your Mustang GT, for example. That's what I did. My illness created a situation where I wasn't capable of thinking or thought (which is known as "Lyme brain" or "brain fog") for many years. For about 10 years, I wasn't capable of thinking. When that period passed, and I was finally able to think again, the first thing I thought of was my Mustang GT. It gave me something to hope for.

Good Morning, Jerry:

So sorry to hear the news. These days it seems like everyone gets cancer of some sort if they live long enough.

Hang in there; modern medicine is doing remarkable things in cancer treatment. We've had a few friends make remarkable recoveries after being nearly written off. The most important thing seems to be keeping a good, positive attitude.

We'll be thinking of you... we '85 GT people have to stick together!

Best Regards,
Art

Thanks guys. I'm still in the process of 'digesting' this. Hard to explain, I guess I kind of expected to 'feel sick', but I don't. I won't really know where we go from here until the 29th, when I have appointments with my surgeon and oncologist. There's a test called an 'octreoscan' I need to have, but haven't heard when it's supposed to happen.

GREAT NEWS!!!
Saw the oncologist today! He said the early report that my cancer had spread to my lymph nodes is WRONG!!! The sample from the lymph nodes was perfectly clear!
Now. I still have a couple more tests to go for, but he fully expects to see no sign of any cancer. For that part, it's a wait and see, but today we're celebrating!!!
