I put Ford Racing hearers on my 89 vert and they both were about half the weight of just one OEM cast iron header. I was surprised how easy they were to get off, the only problem I had was the dip stick tube bolt and nut.... Could not get that off. The tube design lets the exhaust gas from each cylinder flow faster by not running in to any back pressure from the other cylinders. The only trouble with that is that the lengths of the tubes aren't the same so at the collector you do get some slow down on the exhaust. Equal length tube headers solved that issue but they do cost more and tend to make tune ups a nightmare.

In 1985 and on the 302 H.O. got tubular stainless steel headers. They will get a light coating for surface rust, but still look good.

What Chris said. No real gains with swapping out the stock headers ( non cast) with aftermarket on a stock motor dyno proven and it is all over the net. long tubes give the biggest gains. there is a big gain for early guys though if they swap out the restrictive cast headers and swap in a set of stock later tubular headers.
