Question Is This 87 5.0 LX Worth $1,000 ??

Found this car not far away from me and it's kind of got me thinking. First a little background info. It's a 1987 LX 5.0 5 speed, totally stock with 69,000 miles so the seller says. Story goes that in 2001 when the car only had 69,000 miles the fuel pump quit and it was parked outside til about a month ago when this guy bought it. Fuel pump was put in like 2 weeks ago and she runs great but has been sitting 8 years... Here are some pictures you can see what has me wondering, all the weird rust spots, would sitting out for 8 years take this much of a toll on paint and sheet metal? I'm thinking she's got 169,000.....but underneath is perfectly straight and solid really nice chassis tough to achieve living around here with the salty road winters......

Let's look at the worst:

You're looking at two replacement doors and a hatch. But more importantly, probably a new roof skin. Are you 100% certain there is no rust/rot hiding underneath, in the seams of the floors, the frame rails, nothing? Then of course after all you'd need a paint job. I'm surprised the headlights aren't yellowed!

Either way I'd be very hard pressed to pay $1000 for that.

No way would I give $1000 for that rust bucket. The way the roof is rusted it more than likely has some type of floor rot. The water has to go somewhere when it gets in there. Not to mention sitting for 8 years, lots of stuff that will need replacing very soon.

thats about a $600 to $800 parts car, all that rust started on the inside so you dont even know what hasn't popped thru the paint yet. trying to get that car in decent shape will cost more then you would ever be able to sell it for again. if your looking for a project get it for $600 and get a nice 4 cyl body and do a swap.

i wouldnt pay more than $500 for it..and thats basically for the motor, trans, and rear..hard to believe the body is that bad and theres no other rust underneath anywhere...rust doesnt discriminate...

I'd pass. To be honest I wouldn't give $100 for it.
Looks like it has a bad case of terminal cancer.

Way too much body rust!!! Would stay faaaaarrrrrr away! For 1k-2k more you could probably find a much better condition car with less work needed. May be worth purchasing for a few hundred to use as parts car?! Other than that I feel it would be a waste of time trying to repair the rust damage.

Probably if you pull the sun roof out of it you'll find the gutter drains have plugged up and there will be rot in the gutters and the "A" pillars.

By the time you get that car all fixed into a driver you will spend less to just to buy a driver in the 1st place.

I would stay away from that ol' girl.

Not really in the market now...just trying to see what everyone thought about that particular car. That one in Memphis looks like a nice car though.

So now here's the question does the '87 pictured above have 69k or 169k miles?

Judging by what it looks like under the hood and the interior, I'd say 169k
