Cool

Hello everyone. I guess I should introduce myself. It'll probably take me a while to learn the Mustang before posting anything knowledgeable though.

My name is Ernie, and I'm an 18 year old living in Indiana. I'm the owner of an 88 GT Convt 5spd. Right now it's pretty much stock... head/tail light covers, glass packs, ARE 5 spoke rims, and I believe that's it. It's the way I bought it. I've only had it a week. It's in pretty much mint condition.

I will admit, this is my daily driver/beater car. My toy is a 1988 Chrylser Conquest Tsi. Pretty much stock, runs a 14.0 in the 1/4 mile. Rear wheel drive, LSD rear end, leather, auto climate control, factory 8-way adjustable struts, ground control coil overs, lots of other little things here and there... It's definately my baby.

But anyway, I'm here to learn more about my Mustang and start modifying it. First rounds of mods would be a new exhaust with an H-pipe, K&N cold air intake, short throw shifter, and a new chip. After I see how those mods do on the street (should be noticable difference) I'll work on new heads/intake and stuff like that. I'm reluctent on getting headers as this is my daily driver, and I'd be worried about underhood temps.

Well, I've babbled on long enough, hopefully my stay here will be enjoyable.

Welcome to the Registry Ernie,
I beleave that you will learn a lot here on your 88GT.. There are plenty of guy's in here that are really smart with the EFI cars, when it comes to the modifing these cars.. And yes you should notice a difference when you do the first mod you want to do ( H-pipe, K&N, and the cold air induction along with the short shifter) and don't forget gears, (3.55's for the 5 speed) for a seat of the pants notice right off the bat, it's the best bang for the buck..
And as far as worring about getting headers you already have them on your Mustang there factory..
Good luck with your new car and enjoy..
Joe

Try this Ernie:

1982-1993 Mustang GT Modifications Guide

Skip the chip for now, it's now worthwhile on a stock application.

Ernie, welcome aboard one of the best 5.0 sites in the universe. You are in good hands here. One thing about this place is that most of the regulars have had several of these cars. What ever your situation can be, there is someone around here who will have the right answer for your quest.
Enjoy your car! You now own one of the most cost effective bang for the buck cars ever sold. We are kind of a family/support group.

I'm glad to hear that about this group... it's really what I'm looking for. The Conquest group(s) I'm a part of are like that too. When I went to the Import vs. Domestic drags in Englishtown this year (I was the only purple Conquest that ran if anyone was there... please excuse my 15.5 run, I had a real bad slipping clutch) I stayed with one of the guys because I didn't have the money for a hotel. Boy you wanna talk about a loyal group of owners, head over to the Quest group! We have to be (loyal) to stick with it, we have virtually no aftermarket, and no manufacture support!
