I went to a car show the other day in downtown Phoenix , for British sports cars . I noticed there where a couple of AC cobras at the end of a lane , both cars had thier hoods up and I couldnt believe my eyes. Dam things had Mustang engines in em ! one of them had a 85 motor and the other one had a 90s motor , I saw one that had a 428 I thougt it was real but who knows.

Factory Five Racing sells a complete kit for $11G that uses a late model Mustang drivetrain(not included) for motivation.

For some reason Shelby America and FoMoCo brought suit against Factory Five Racing, Inc. to order them to stop producing the kits.

The reason for the law suit is that Factory Five has infringed on the parties mentioned. Shelby American (Carrol Shelby),and Ford have patent rights to the Cobra's name, and asthetics.

It is illegal to use these two items without the consent of S.A., and Ford. Even with the consent F.F is supposed to be paying some kind of royalties to the patent holders.

A similar battle took place between Ferrari, and someone who was building fake Daytona kits.

A guy down the street from me built one of these kits and he put a 351W with a 4spd toploader. Man that thing can haul. Its loud too, really nice. You know when he is driving it around the neighbor hood.

Cool

Although new to this board, on this topic I know a thing or two. The FFR Cobra replica is an excellent, low cost way for a guy to have some good fun on or off the track. If you like huge power, torque, speed and driving on the edge you should look into these. They're a bit pricy for us Canuks especially if our $ continues to drop. However in my opinion the lawsuit is only about one thing--$$$$$$$$- The old man (C.S.) simply wants a piece of the cake since these replicas are doing so well. It is believed that the lawsuit is not a real threat since it's been 30 years these replicas have been produced.

Take care!

I like the Factory Five cars also. There are a bunch of them around here since they are made in Wareham, MA down by Cape Cod.

I gotta take the factory tour sometime.

It's surprising how many are big blocks.
Most people go with the EFI 5.0 motors.

Question

You guys are gonna be so jealous! My uncle won a shelby cobra from a local radio contest last November. He hasn't had a chance to take it out yet becuase of winter, but we've planned a blast around town this coming weekend. The best part is, he's gonna let me drive it!!! hee hee I'm soooo excited.

Geo you lucky dogs. What kind of Cobra? I believe you will experience what they call "perma-grin" when you take your first ride. I'm definitely enviouuuuus!
I grew up in Edmonton and I know you're only 2 hours from the rockies. Enjoy!!!
