Unhappy

Although I hate to do it, it now feels like "the right thing." I'm lined up to buy my dad's SVO from him (will post new pics soon) and the more I drive it the more I like it. It's very different, but in a good way. So, I have placed a classified ad here as well as locally... we'll see what happens. I think I'll go sit behind the wheel of my soon to be ex-5.0 and make engine noises

Sorry to hear that Wes, but you can always buy another one when you get the money. Heck, if I had the money I'd buy it from you but I'm flat broke from moving :-( You know what you could also do is drop a 5.0 in your SVO That would be sweet. Good luck with the SVO!

Aaacck!!! Noooooooo!! Blasphemy!! What a horrible thing to do to an SVO. Please, please, please never do this. I know that Wes won't, and neither should anyone else. The intercooled turbo-4 is an intregal part of what makes the SVO special. If you want a V8 Mustang, buy a GT or LX and go to town... there are lots out there and parts are plentiful. Don't hack up a rare piece of Ford history. Please. Leave the dwindling number of SVOs still out there for enthusiasts who appreciate them for what they are.

Sorry, things like this just get me worked up...

Cheers,
Ian

Question

So sorry to hear about your pending loss.
Get another job or hit the lottery !
I have to ask, is that Canadian money or is that U.S. dollars on your classified? Maybe you should put both in the ad.

The ad is in Canadian dollars...

Ian... LOL... I agree that the SVO is what it is because it does not have a V8!

Sorry guys I didn't mean to get you worked up. I don't really know all that much about SVO's so I was just throwing that out into the air for a thought. Guess it was a bad idea

If you want to see "worked up", read my responses to Wes93GT's original posts regarding 93 GT vs 86 SVO.

That's okay, I've calmed down now. LOL! I'm an easily excitable guy... I blame it on too many gas fumes.

The 5.0 swap into SVOs has been done before (probably quite a few times, actually). Because the turbo 4 is a bit exotic and the cost to repair/replace one can be about the same as putting a 5.0 in its place, that tends to happen if/when the turbo-4 goes. I can see why people would do it, and understand their motivations. However, with these cars becoming harder and harder to find I would just hate to see someone buy one up for the sole purpose of swapping a V8 into the car when there are so many LX and GT 5.0s out there to begin with.

We need to preserve as many of these cars as we can now in their original condition so that they can be restored and enjoyed by enthusiasts, collectors and auto-historians in the future. I guess that's what I was trying to get at in my original post, but my hysteria got in the way of the message.

I'll make sure to take 3 deep breaths before I make any posts in the future.

LOL on Mick's statements on the SVO in the above URL's. Good point on preservation of the SVO though. I never really thought of it that way until now. They are rare cars, but I just like the 5.0 above any other type of Mustang.(excluding Cobras of course)

I once drove a SVO when I worked at the Ford dealer, it was a pretty nice ride, quick for a 4 cylinder.
