Default 82 GT T-Top Rusty Resto

Hi All, not a huge poster here, but I thought I would highlight my current project - my 82 GT T-top that I've nick named "the rotter". I actually bought this car about 4 years ago and it's basically sat on (and off) my car trailer ever since. And a few other projects in between have pushed this car to the back burner several times. I've nicknamed this car the rotter for obvious reasons. In fact my wife has advised more than once to simply take this car to the JY. If it wasn't for the fact that this car is a T-Top, I probably wouldn't have ever bought it and it likely would have been history by now. Here are a few pics of the car back when I first brought it home:



Well I finally got the fire under my butt to get going on this car.
Now I bought the car basically as a roller and over the last several years I have picked up quite a bit of the parts I need to put it back together. So I unloaded the car, pressure washed it and stuck it in the garage:

First problem is that some rodents have taken up residence in the car and it smelled like, well just use your imagination. So I decided to strip the car of just about everything that's bolted down inside. This is a first for me, I've never taken a car down this far

Here are a few shots of the gutted car. I've even removed 90% of the wiring from the interior and engine bay:


And I pulled off the nose as well:

After I completed the initial disassembly, I washed the inside of the car with Mr. Clean and a scrub brush and then hosed it out. So the rotter is lemon fresh clean! The basic structure of the car is in decent shape, especially considering it's an original Mass car (from Cape Cod, last registered owner).

About a month ago, I started inside on the floor, first up was to remove the support brace that the front seats monut to, lots of spot welds:

and fully out:

Then removed the driver side pan:

Took it out in pieces, here's the scrap that's left:

Need to do the same to the passenger side, it looks like Swiss Cheese:

Even with new floor pans, you need to re-use this stuff:

And here is the front end, all stripped down:

After more cutting, spot weld drilling, etc: Yabba Dabba Dooo - we now have a Flinstone Mobile.... :noesrun:

I got tired of working inside the car on the floors, so I dug into the passenger front frame rail. Looked like a past issue with battery acid:

I cut out a pretty good section ~ 17" overall:


Then started to patch in new metal:

Next up was to finished up the outter & bottom of the passenger side frame rail.

And then I worked on the area under the brake booster on the driver side frame rail:


Again, welded in - just need to grind down:
