Last 1986 GT

does anyone know the LAST 1986 GT built? and on what build day? was it a convertible or a hatchbacl? color? etc. and maybe the VIN...my car was built very late in the production year, in Sept 86 late in the month with a build date of 9/22/86.
anyone know when was the last day of production for the 1986 Mustangs, at the DAP, or San Jose. which production facility ran the latest.
Considering that they were switching over the production lines to the new 1987 Models, I would assume that it wasn't too late.
any info on this would be great!!

Well, the San Jose Ford Plant was closed about 1981, so Dearborn was the only factory producing the Fox Mustang. San Jose was only labeled as one of the DSO's for the region and for the 1993 model, it was switched to San Francisco.

There used to be a place called 'Third Generation and News" where you could write to this guy and he would decipher you vin. According to the report he sent me, the last day of production was 30 September 1986. Like you, mine has a very late build date - 19 Sept.

Using the VIN, he could tell what day it was built, where it was in the rotation that day and broke it down by exterior/interior colors.

This guy’s name was R. S. Jones and his e-mail was thrdgenreg@aol.com. I have no idea if it’s still valid but worth a shot.

Sincerely appreciate your reply, all good info. How did you get your build date? Did you order a Marti report too? Thanks!!! Sounds like our cars could have been very close off the assembly line.

I got the build date off the report that Third Gen sent me. I take it as being accurate as all the other clues fit - some of the stampings on the body panels are marked August and September, the door tag shows a build date of 09/86 and the build sheet that I pulled out from under the carpet shows a date of 860915. I would have to assume this means the date the sheet was printed, not necessarily the date the car was built. If you find the build sheet, let me know what the date is.

I have not gotten a Marti Report. I need to put that on my 'to do' list.

My friend has a 9/86 Gt also. I think his is built on the 22 also. Someone said the 29th or 30th was the last day of 86 production.

I'm not sure the exact build date on my 86, but I was also September. Not sure where to find the engine bay stamp. Thoughts?
