just ordered some custom channel rails from a local fab shop.

I came up with 13g 2.5" wide, 2.5" inner fender height to k-member top plate, 5" bay rail height to tower, 22" long. no more swaybar mounts. im trying to upload pics but won't work right now.

the rail is actually 2.25" od wide but i wanna slip this over some of the 'existing' rail. it may be too wide but the pieces were cheap so if they don't fit snug I will just get new ones made. these should measure out to 2.3-ish inch inside diameter using my poor math.

maybe I can get this piece back on the road before that white stuff falls from the sky

So I picked up the frame rails today. They fit like a glove!

I got the driver side sway bar mount separated from the rail today. Just need to get the passenger side off tomorrow. One that's off I can really see what's solid and cut away the bad stuff.

These rails will just slide over the solid stuff. Once fitted I need to bend up a plate to spot weld to the tower and for the k-member bolts to pass through on the top.

Just a little teaser pic for now. I can't believe this project is going my way finally

Got the frame keys removed and started drilled out enough spot welds on the frame horn to slide my channel in place. It's nice to work with solid metal now.

I am at the point now where I am just figuring this out as I go. So not sure where to start today I began to just cut out rust. Then I figured I may as well cut out the whole rail since it's rotted anyway. So thats what I did

I was going to keep cutting but of course I ran out of disc's. Once the rails are cut I wanna tack the channel in place so I can fabricate the top plate. Once I make the top plate I can weld it onto the channel and bolt my k-member in!

My 93 needs a little work but nowhere near as bad as yours, some surface rust and the rails and some minor tweaking where the strut towers meet the rail, and the drivers side strut tower. If i cant find another Mustang, Fairmont, Zephyr, Granada, or a Capri for donors ill just use patches.

Keep them pics and info coming.

When I installed the torque boxes earlier this year I forgot to paint the mounting surfaces. Well 6 months later they have already rusted.

Removed kit, sanded, prepped, and painted with rust proofing.

Also hit the plates with some paint as I don't plan to weld them yet.

While I have been practice welding, it's hard to find stuff I can practice on. Removing the trans crossmember the other day I noticed it's only tack welded. I figured I may as well try and get a bead around it and since it's under the car I don't care how it comes out lol.

Got a lil bead going but not much penetration. Some holes and splatter need to be ground down. Flux core is pretty difficult to fine tune.

Tons of projects going on.. more to come
