Thanks to the advice from my first posting, I looked around online and locally, there is not much to offer locally because it's the rust belt and anything rust free under 100k will bring top dollar. I've found a couple nice cars out of state, however, what I'm wondering is what should I expect bringing a car across state lines? How much should I set aside for this? I'm new to this stuff, thanks

Most states make it fairly easy to register an out of state car. You should just have to pay normal registration fee's to get it done. Florida used to have a system they called "Impact Fee" when you brought a car in from out of state. You had to pay taxes on the value of the car, or $400+ to register it. This practice has since been disbanded as it was found to be against the State Constitution. They had to refund everyones fees from several years. Quite a payout. That is the only thing I have ever heard about difficulty in bringing cars into the state, but you may want to contact your local tag agency and see what if any restrictions there are in your state. Also if you are in an inspection state you may want to go over the car pretty thoroughly before purchasing. Good luck!!!

How am I to know if I live in an inspection state? i know that before a drivers test, they make sure that everything works properly and that the car is safe for highway speeds. How could I find out if I'm in an inspection state? Call the DMV?

I bought my car from AZ. I'm not to far away from you, but I'm in PA.

Contact your DMV for specifics but here is how my deal worked:

Sent certified check for payment of car, had previous owner send me the title.
Arranged shipping. Cost will depend on how far away it is.
Got insurance lined up, started the day it was being shipped, just to be safe.
Paid for shipping on arrival.
Then went to local notory to have title transfered and pay tax and registration.
Got it inspected. I am in an inspection state, meaning I have to have a yearly safety inspection and sticker on the car to drive leagally.
Drive[/list]------------------

I'm not in any position to have a car shipped because it would probably cost a small fortune to me, so I'm looking for something in the northern part of Ohio, eastern Indiana, southern Michigan, and western Pennsylvania. All within driving distance...

I mean car inspections that need to be done every year. Some places have this, some don't. If you don't know what I mean, you probably don't have them where you are. Contact the DMV for info regarding registering a car from out of state. In most places as long as it has a clean title, etc. it is no big deal to bring in a car from out of state.
