Heath, what the tag says and what's inside the pumpkin could be two different things.

With the transmission in neutral and the car safely raised up, one turn of the rear wheels will spin the driveshaft a number of times.

2-3/4 turns would be 2.73's

3 turns would be 3.08's

3 1/4 turns would be 3.27's

3 1/2 turns would be 3.55's

3 3/4 turns would be 3.73's

You might compare this to what the original tag decodes and dictates.

Looks like the first part of the tag got cut off... based on the "08" there, it should be something like "3L08 75 S271D". Here's how that would decode...

3L08 = 3.08 axle ratio ("L" would mean it's a locking rear end)
75 = 7.5"
S271D = axle plant and model code (S = Sterling axle plant)

Hope that helps!

the "L" means its limited slip

if theres no L,its an open diff

3L08-limited slip
308-open differential(one wheel peel)

I can pop up from the grave and answer that one! It's the build date (of the axle, not the car). 2 is for '82, f is for June, and 04 for the 4th; so June 4th 1982.
