Hi everyone ~

I'm a new member and I noticed through reading that alot of you really like the '89 vs. the '93 for example. Could anyone tell me why ? My dream that is almost a reality is a '93. Now you all have me wondering, lol. Thanks for any help you can give.

Check out "Info By Year" for those two years.
On thing that makes the 1989 one of the more disirable years is that it was the last year for not having the air bag.
I think the steering wheel got ugly after 1989. Also the tilt wheel went away!

Thanks alot for the info, I appreciate it. I agree with the steering wheel issue too. Wouldn't you think the 93 would be more desireable because that was the last yr of that body style ? Or do you think the airbag issue after 89 out weighs that ? Thank you.

Another thing about the 93 also is that they switched to those hypereutectic pistons from forged pistons, which are fine but not as strong. I wanted a 92-93 but the price difference is a few thousand dollars. So I went with the 89GT COnvertible I have now and the 92-93 seem alot harder to find since I think they made less of them.

From what I read (on here and elsewhere) is that 93' was the year that they re-rated the horsepower because of small changes that had been made over the years that had affected the 225 hp rating. I'm not sure exactly what the changes were, besides the piston's mentioned... I've also heard that the way of measuring the horsepower changed in 93'. Something about it went from measuring it at the flywheel to measuring it at the rear wheels, instead.(?) I always figured that probably each year they lost a "little" hp until 93' when they finally had to admit it.
bottom line... all of em' are fast and mean and nasty.. I'd have any of em'!

Its not at the rear wheels. It was before 93 they measured HP without any of the accessories on and in 93 they started measuring HP with all the accessories on which was less.

I totally disagree with the steering wheel comments above. I prefer the styling of the 90-93 wheel over the 87-89 steering wheel by far! It's much nicer looking and fits with the look of the interior, just like the smaller HVAC knobs look better in the 90-93 cars compared to the 87-89 cars. Ironically, I own an 89, but the steering wheel is soon to be changed....

Concerning tilt, I really don't use it that much, but I would have to agree that the setting of the 90-93 non-tilt wheels are just a little too high (bus-like) for my comfort. A small consession to get the steering wheel I want.

Oh yeah, 89GT, that was it... I forgot about that. That's why getting some stuff off of my belt is in my future mod plans!
