Is there a difference in steering wheel designs for the 93 GT ? I have seen 2 different styles so far. Was this from Ford, or are the owners switching them ? Thanks for any help you can give.

The only two I am aware of are 4 post with airbag and cruise, and 4 post with leather wrap and no cruise (93 cobra). Other than that they must be aftermarket.

Hey Goodson,
In my neverending search for parts to complete my conversion, I was wondering if you (or anyone else reading this) could answer a question I have. I know all the 90-93 steering wheels/columns were black and NONE came with tilt. However, cruise was standard on the GT, but was it an option for the LX 2.3 and LX 5.0? Also, as you mentioned, the 93 Cobra wheel was cruise-less, tilt-less, and came leather wrapped. Was leather wrapped and option on the LX 2.3 and LX 5.0 wheels? The reason I'm asking is that if the answers to both questions above are "yes," then all I really need is to get a steering wheel from an LX with leather wrapping and no cruise.

Thanks Bob,
Glen

yes and no...... http://64.21.184.154/ubb/frown.gif

The only leather wrapped "cruiseless" wheel offered was on the 93 cobra. The rest of them were plain steering wheels cruise or not. There was no leather option for the mustang steering wheel. I can't find my book but I believe that all the mustangs came standard with cruise from 90-93 even the 2.3L. I know that all the 5.0's (GT/LX) have seen at shows have had cruise, I have been wrong many times before tho'.

Its nice to dream up possibilities sometimes http://64.21.184.154/ubb/biggrin.gif

Ok, next question. Was that leather wrapping on the 93 cobra steering wheel standard equipment (whether you got leather seating surfaces or not) or was it an option that went along with the leather seating?

As far as I know, these were the only options on the 93 cobra:

exterior and interior color
leather or cloth
rear window defroster

Cobra ~

You posted a reply this evening to my question. It was that I had found some '93 GT's with tilt. You said they were not stock, people must have switched them. How big of a job is that to switch them ? Thank you.

Glen, the cobra came with the black leather wrapped steering wheel no matter the interior color or combination. The only other option that you did not mention on was the CD player. 93 was the first year the mustang came with a factory CD player, the cobra had that option too.

pony4me, the tilt column is a big undertaking. the dash has to be removed and all the wiring pulled away from the column. the steering column goes through the pedal mounting bracket also. it is not an extremely difficult project, it is just time consuming and wears on the patience level of some people.

Beginning in 1990 with the addition of the drivers side airbag, the tilt wheel was removed, and rear seat belt shoulder harnesses were added.

I need to correct myself or better yet explain in greater detail.

The leather wrap came on GT and LX steering wheels with cruise (possibly with the leather interior option, but I need to search for more information on that). BUT, the only non cruise steering wheel with leather was the cobra.

When I said the dash had to be removed, I meant the lower part under the steering wheel. NOT the whole dash. I assumed too much in my other post, and it can be interpreted differently. The steering column is not real hard to change out, but is time consuming.

I noticed my other posts were somewhat wrong. Hope I did not mislead anyone. http://64.21.184.154/ubb/smile.gif

You're right, the cobra wheel came leather wrapped, no matter the interior option (cloth or leather). Saw it on a window sticker for a car with cloth interior:

Yeah, I was sure about that, I am not sure about the GT or LX steering wheel. I think the leather wrap came with the leather option. I am still looking for info on that.

I hope leather wrapped steering wheels did come with some options package or just an individual option on an LX (no cruise). That's what I need, if not an OE 93 cobra wheel.
