Anyone know why orig GT's have Rubber like Door moldings with painted pin stripes, and pinstripe tape and plastic type moldings on fenders, bumpers etc.??? Strikes me odd why Ford would use 2 different molding materials and 2 different ways of pin striping! I never actually noticed until I started stripping off the dreaded baby blue pin striping. You can actually see a shade diference in the molding titaniam color too.It is like this on both doors so I assume this is a factory thing right??? Anyone know why?? -COBRA

The only reason I can come up with is that the engineers figures that this is where most of the "door dings" would be, and that a rubber type moulding with a tape stripe may get damaged more. Just a guess. Not really for sure. This is how rumors get started, like the T-top delimma with 88GT's

Funny, I was thinking the same thing last night...And perhaps the rubber all the way around would have been costly, or too ugly for that matter...The fact is though today urethane trim is common all the way around with no rubber strips....I guess things improved??? COBRA

What was the 88 GT t-top dilemma?

The question of how many 1988 Mustang GT T-tops were produced has not been answered. Yet it seems that many people have the answer due to rumors started either by people on the net or mustang enthusiasts. there is no hard evidence on how many were produced, but people claim they are rare yet they have no numbers to prove it. They did discontinue the t-tops in 88 but this does not make them rare like a saleen, cobra R or a shelby. That is the dilemma...how many were produced? No one has the answer of where to get the info or where they got their info (mainly word of mouth), yet many claim to know the number produced. This is what I meant when I said this is how rumors get started, someone says "well I heard/guess it COULD be ......" and someone takes it as if it was totally true.

Hey, I think all 87-88 t-tops are pretty much the coolest thing around. you've got the looks, the open-air feeling of a convertible, and the warmth of a hardtop in the winter... I don't think they're that rare though (one's in good condition are rare) what could be better??? I guess a Viper with the convertible/removable hardtop. hehehehehehe
