1980 McLaren Mustang Convertible

Thanks to Mick for the reply to my query regarding the 1980 McLaren Mustang Turbo. However, the one I am researching is a convertible with a Mercedes top and rear end 4 cylinder turbo, 4 speed.

The JPG images of '80 McLaren Mustang I sent to you depict the only model I have seen and read about(2.3T, 4-speed manual, hatchback, unsubstantiated production numbers). Production Mustang convertibles(converted from coupes by Cars & Concepts) started in '83. Are you sure you're not confusing the '80 McLaren Mustang with the '84-'86 ASC/McLaren Capri and/or '86-'90 ASC/McLaren Mustang (http://home1.gte.net/5liter/mmr/ascMclaren.htm)?

This particular Mustang was made in October 1979. My problem is I was told it is a McLaren. It's a Mustang front with a Mercedes rear as previously stated. I was told that it is one of a very VERY limited number. But can't determine the accuracy of this data. It is not one that some individual has made - it's a Ford production.

I've been trying to find out if anyone else has one and can tell me background data.
