I have been looking at an 89 GT for about a month now to buy. Its a T-5 and mostly stock and in pretty clean condition (just needs a new fuel pump) with only 70K miles on the clock. I would have had it by now but the guy is asking $6000 and wont go down any more. Is it just me or is this a little high? I know that GT's this old are pretty hard to find, but this price is above even the Blue Book price.

Thats too high. Its hard to resist because you really want it but just think theres always another one. Does it have alot of modifications like a blower or heads that he wants this much for it? If stock then no way. Is it convertible, saleen or something special about it?

It's worth as much as somebody is willing to pay for it which is not necessarily the asking price. You don't like the price and it's non-negotiable so don't buy it. Being that it's about $700-1300 above fair retail value, you'd be better off looking elsewhere.

for more reference, I hit that book value problem too, but....The one I picked up was an 89GT for $5100, 32,000, yes 32k,....needs a little paint on a door, the
ac needs updating, no cd of course, but the engine is tip top. I jumped at mainly for the 5.0 engine with
32000. a virgin in my mind. cosmetics can come after, mechanics meant the most off the shoot. purrs like a
kitten at idle. Deals are out there you have to look. after looking at ads online, I felt I made out well. I
agree with the point made about knowing if the miles were "rough miles"...The source may tell alot. I
bought mine off a conservative chemical engineer, it never seen a winter- COBRA

Thanks for the comments guys. The car is stock except for some Flowmasters. I dont have to worry about it anymore though because the guy sold it. I guess its back to the classifieds.

I saw a 1989GT convertible for sale right now on ebay for $5000K. It has 119000 miles but its a convertible. http://64.21.184.154/ubb/smile.gif. It looks nice too, it looks just like mine. If I would have know I would have waited. Its in Houston, TX though, don't know where you are at.

My friend bought a 5spd 88' GT with 70K on it for $4,000. He totaled it and soled it to the blue book for $5,000. Don't pay more than five. Tell him the blue book prices it at 5,000 or less. Especially if it needs a new fuel pump and in bad condition.
I just bought an 88' GT for 3,200 with 116,000 on it and good condition. It's an AOD though.
