View Full Version : Is it worth $1250?

I found an 87 GT for $1250. However, upon closer inspection, I found out it needs a bunch of work. The major stuff it needs...
Fender work on the drivers side, easy to fix myself, just a dent.
New paint, $300 at cost from a family friend who owns a hot rod resto shop.
New exhaust, it's extremely loud. $300
The power steering pump is shot, $130.
The rack and pinion steering is worn out, $400 from Summit.
Worn out shocks, $200 for good ones.
151,000 miles
The interior isn't good, but it's not bad.

The good points are new brakes, new clutch, and a recent engine tuneup which he has receipts for all of.

What should I be prepared to offer him? I honestly think $750 would be entirely fair considering it would take about $2,300 to get it in tip top shape... not including interior. Also, how much would it cost to have it shipped 300 miles?

Thanks,
Blade

i would just save my money and get one you dont need to put any work into, cause you usually get what you pay for. wait till you get atleast 3g then start looking or else you might be disappointed at all the extra stuff you notice after you buy it.

you can get a rack and pinion steering from kragen for $90 with a life time warranty, and is the PS just whining or does it not work, most of the fox body stearing pumps whine but still work fine.

Well, the body is in good condition other than a dent and faded paint. Everything else seems fine too. I'm trying to be realistic on the price. I can't afford a $3,000 fun car at 17 years old. So I'm looking for something I can drive AND work on at the same time, maybe parking it and restoring when I can afford a new car.

If you got this one, youre total investment would be over 3,000 to fix it up anyway.

Butt wait! If I actually proof read my typing, i would have realized that the total investment would be about $2000 not $3000. Plus I'd know that the steering components wouldn't need replaced for a long time...
