I have a chance to buy an '84 anniv. 5.0 conv. or a '85 conv. My question is which one from a collector's stand point would be a better investment. Also any preference on manual vs. automatic. Thanks

I think that you should go with the 1984 anniversary convertible, according to this web site if you have a stick there are 587 made and AOD is 670. Either way (stick or AOD), I would take the 84 from a collectors point of view. But the 85 was the last year Mustang GT's came carburated and that is a reason that other's like it because of it's increased horsepower. But definitely go with the 84. What is the price difference between them and what are their conditions? Let us know what you get. http://64.21.184.154/ubb/smile.gif
Although the '84 model has less rated horsepower and torque than the '85 model, I believe the '84½ 20th Anniversary convertible would be more of a collector's car than the '85 convertible, assuming both have the same fuel delivery and transmission combination and are similar otherwise, i.e. mileage, options, condition, etc. Only two model years to date have included official anniversary editions - '84 and '99. Of the 5,260 total '84½ 20th Anniversary models produced, only 1,213(not including Ford executive or Canada export models) were convertibles equipped with the 5.0L V-8.
If the two convertibles don't have the same powertrains, value would be a different matter since models of the same year are always worth more if they're equipped with an optional higher performance engine.
And remember that the closer a vehicle is to factory stock the more money it will be worth in collector's circles.
