just look at the engine if it fills the engine bay its a v8 if it doesn't its not and usually on top of the upper intake it will say 5.0 HO

Reading Differences - GT vs. LX, GLX, L (http://www.mustanggt.org/gtvslx.htm) in the Info By Year (http://www.mustanggt.org/year.htm) section of this website is a good start. Reading '82-'93 Mustang VIN Codes (http://www.mustanggt.org/vin.htm) and GT Engine Info (http://www.mustanggt.org/gtengine.htm) in the Info By Year (http://www.mustanggt.org/year.htm) section also clues you in to what the engine code in the VIN should be for a 5.0L V-8.

Not only do all years or L, GL, GLX, and LX not have ground efects but '82-'86 GTs do not have ground effects either. If the car is a GT, the letters "GT" will be stamped on the body "buck" tag.

If its a 5 liter the intake cover will say "5.0 HO". The easiest way to tell is if the car has dual exhaust, then its a 5.0 and not a 4-banger or V6.

Count the spark plugs, if it has 8, at least it will get out of its own way.

Is a gt spoiler the same as a lx hatch back spoiler.

or, to be absolutely positively sure, get the vin number, and call your local DMV office and find out. Get the title history on it too to see if it's been in any accidents.

Hey Topless, my 93 LX 2.3 had 8 spark plugs. So, you can't go by that if you're not sure how to tell otherwise.

4-cyl will have a small single tail pipe.
Tires look awfully skinny too.
I don't think they had alloy wheels.

They may have the front up higher than a 5.0 due to old springs.

Oh yeah, the 5.0 HO upper intake under the hood is unmistakable.

GT Dave, toward the end of the Fox chassis cars the 4 cylinder LX could have been bought with a 15 inch 10 hole aluminum wheel package. They had a srong resemblance to the '90 5.0 LX, but no badges, and a single exhaust too.

floor it, dump the clutch, if it throws you back in the seat and leaves 200 feet of rubber on the ground, it's a 5.0
