Is there such a vehicle as a 1983 Mustang BOSS GT? If so, what was different? If not, during what years could you purchase a BOSS?

There was no Mustang BOSS GT in '83 or any other year. The only years that FoMoCo sold BOSS Mustangs were '69 and '70(302 and 429), and '71(351) and if I'm not mistaken, they did not have the GT package.
Read all of the responses to the following topic pertaining to special "options" and/or "packages":

Ford used the slogan "The Boss is back" in ads for the 82 GT, referring to the improved performance of the car, but as Mick stated, there never was a Boss GT.

Off the subject a little bit but isn't there a 98 or 99 BOSS that Shinonda made before he died and that Dallas Mustang is authorized to install on these cars?? I thought I had read about this sometime ago.

I found a website about this at Boss Shinoda (http://fordpower.hypermart.net/shinoda.html) It appears that you could order them through the Ford Dealership or through Dallas Mustangs.

Larry Shinoda designed a package for the SN-95 which included BOSS graphics(a la '69/'70 BOSS Mustang), a rear decklid wing with cup holders, and wheels. There may be some other items but I don't recall from memory. MM&FF did a writeup when the package came out and I'll go back and find it among my back-issues.
Now the question is "authorized" by who? FoMoCo? Larry Shinoda did not end his career at FoMoCo and I'll have to check out whether or not he had blessings from Ford to make official any "BOSS Shinoda" Mustangs that had the package added after it left the factory. That's like a dealer installing 3.73:1 rear gearset and calling it "factory" when the original AX code is a 3.08:1 gearset.

You can also order a Steeda or Kenny Brown Mustang from any Ford dealer and a Saleen Mustang from any Saleen authorized Ford dealer. They're serialized by Steeda, KB, and Saleen, respectively. That doesn't make any of those cars official Ford products. It's a convenience for buyers and sellers alike. If these BOSS Shinoda Mustangs are serialized, is Ford doing the serialization or is it Dallas Mustang Parts? If it's DMP, then that would be more like a "tuner" car such as Steeda or KB(Saleen is a specialty car manufacturer).

Yeah I kind of figured it was speciality car and not like the Bullit car which will be shipped from Ford this way but in the future will we consider it another BOSS or a speciality car. Hmm.

and I don't know what they are calling them, but Roush is making Mustangs now, in a recent Auto Week issue, ready to rock and roll for $49,000. I guess you gotta be the Boss to afford one of them. http://64.21.184.154/ubb/biggrin.gif
