View Full Version : Eagle VR60 P225/60VR215 on a TRX rim???
I pulled into a parking spot this morning at the dentists office, and next to me was a very clean 82 GT. I walked around the car and noticed that it had TRX rims with standard size tires Goodyear Eagle VR60's P225/60VR15 is this possible?. I have a 83 GT and I'm going to have the TRX rims refinished this spring, and get new rubber. I thought that you couldn't get a standard size tire to fit a metric rim?. I looked at the changes year by year, and it stated that the tire size increased from 82 to 83 but the tire size that is stated is standard size not metric. Now if you go to the year (1982 and 1983) it states that in 1983 that the rim size increased. My TRX tire size is 220/55R390TRX A. Can I use a 225/60VR15 tire on my TRX rim or any other standard size tire?.

first i gotta ask if you were in omaha when you saw the car because a guy i worked with had the same set up on his 82 gt he had some custom(and very expensive) work done to them at a machine shop to get it to work but he felt it was worth it because he liked the look of the original wheels but didnt like being limited on his tire selection
Baywolf,
I was in Farmington Hills Michigan. I did notice now that I think about it the car had a Mich. license plate but it had a California ford dealers license plate frame.

Years ago there was a place out in like Ohio that did special work to wheels like this.
I friend of mine had some Mopar factory wheels widened so that he could have these stock looking wheels on massive M/H slicks.
They looked like nothing else at the track.
Besides it was a '68 426 Hemi Charger.
It was one brutal car!

I've also heard of guy's machining the TRX wheels down to fit a standard tire, but you're removing material, which you'd think might weaken the rim. I had a set of TRX wheel I on my 79 V6 coupe, when my neighbour sold them to me for such a good deal, he neglected to inform me they were metric and the crappy tires that fit them are just a bit pricey.

There was also a brief period, where Goodyear built TRX tires. Didn't make TRX tires for long.
